LinkedIn Connections
LinkedIn brings some interesting thoughts to my mind. I see a lot of attempts to grandstand and promote. I see people feeling forced to add yet another picture, desperately seeking “exposure” and “image”. Sometimes it is almost comical. ‘I am so happy to be a part of a professional organisation like X,’ says the post. […]

PhD Self-Care Project: Reaching Out
The Women in STEM Society of the University of Adelaide invited me to give a talk to its members last week. In light of self-care, I carefully made sure that I wasn’t over-stretching my commitments to the point that I had to sacrifice any more sleep. Healthy boundaries also mean being able to say ‘no’. […]

Update Your Resume
I like to revisit my resume occasionally to make sure that it is up-to-date and ready to go for when an interesting job pops up. Given that the new semester has just started, I thought that it was as good a time as any to give my CV a polish. Here are some things that […]
Why Volunteer?
I’ve volunteered on and off since high school and have always found it to be a very rewarding experience. It can be hard to find the time for unpaid work when you’re juggling study and paid work, but I strongly believe in the value of volunteering, both to the volunteer and the organisation.

Applying for Jobs
Is there anything more soul destroying than applying for jobs? You lay your life out on the line and write an inspiring, and a little bit of a suck-up, cover letter, only to be rejected. Sure, it’s not soul destroying if you get the job, but for all of those stuck in the perpetual application […]
Being Valued at Work
I think I’ve mentioned in an earlier post that, on top of my PhD, I also work at a national non-profit organisation. We are a small team here in Adelaide, and I have been working for them for nearly four years. I have been really touched and grateful for the support they’ve shown me through […]
Doing Justice
I want to get it right. I want everything to be perfect. I want my university grades and assignments to be perfect. I want my social life to be perfect. I want my blogs to be perfect. I want everything to be perfect, but I’m not perfect, so it never really is.

Publishing Paranoia
I am tasked with finishing the final draft for my very first manuscript. I have never submitted any academic work for publishing before, and I am starting to realise that I am getting very good at procrastinating. Why do I keep delaying it? To be honest, it is because I am getting really fearful of […]

On Mentoring
As a postgraduate student, I really do believe in the value of mentors. Over the years I’ve had several mentors, some of them for only formal periods of time, and others have provided years of guidance and support. Each mentor has also provided particular feedback and advice on many different aspects of my career.
