I am obsessed with the home renovation and construction shows on Netflix, and they make me want to do all kinds of DIY projects in my own home. If you’re in need of inspiration and […]

The Crown is Deeply Personal

The much anticipated third season of Netflix’s The Crown hit the streaming service on November 18. The show is rightly much praised, for everything from its impeccable set design to understated yet insightful dialogue. I find each and every episode a pleasure to watch.

Best Of: Christmas Films

Christmas films are very important to me. Both the good and the bad (in fact, sometimes the bad are the most fun). One of my favourite things about Christmas is the ritual of watching new additions that inevitably appear on streaming services like Netflix but, mostly, re-visiting the old classics. It’s no coincidence that, even […]

Best Of: Martin Scorsese Films

In case you missed it, Martin Scorsese’s new film, The Irishman—about the Buffalino crime family and their connection to infamous Teamster Jimmy Hoffa—landed on Netflix on the 27th of November after a limited cinema release. It’s a big deal because, well, it’s Scorsese, and also because it marks the re-uniting of some of the best actors […]

In Praise of: The Amazing Race Australia

I love Channel 10’s The Amazing Race Australia. It airs twice a week, on Monday and Tuesday nights, and is must see TV for me.

What Does The Morning Show Say About ‘Me Too’? (Part 2)

The Morning Show’s handling of sexual politics is grimly transfixing, if not a little bewildering. It examines the ‘Me Too’ era from a number of perspectives, including one of Mitch Kessler’s alleged victims, but it’s Alex who is at the centre of the fallout. She’s in the middle of contract negotiations with the top dogs at […]

Boasting powerhouse performances from the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Reece Witherspoon, and Steve Carrell, The Morning Show follows Alex Levy (Aniston), the co-anchor of a nationwide morning news program, The Morning Show, whose life is […]

Review: The Heart’s Invisible Furies

John Boyne’s The Heart’s Invisible Furies opens in 1945 in the small, conservative village of Goleen in west Cork, Ireland. Instead of a nostalgic introduction to Boyne’s homeland of sweeping cliffs and vibrant greenery, the novel begins inside a church where Father James Monroe denounces pregnant 16-year-old Catherine Goggin as a whore, before banishing her […]

Is Apple’s ‘The Morning Show’ Any Good?

The Morning Show is Apple’s first foray into original TV content and, thus, has a lot of hype to live up to. It stars A++ list celebrities Jennifer Anniston (in her first TV role since Friends) and Reese Witherspoon (backing up from the triumphant Big Little Lies). Steve Carrel also plays a Matt Lauer-esque morning […]

Podcasts For A News Fix

For whatever reason, I have almost completely turned away from mainstream media. I tune in occasionally for a channel surf of the news while I make dinner, but I always leave with a twisted feeling in the pit of my stomach. For me, the news of the day now does more harm than good.
