Human Warmth

What does it mean when we say that someone is ‘warm’? To me, a warm person is someone who is friendly and kind. When you are around them, you feel safe and comfortable, like being curled up in a warm blanket. Warm people are open to connection rather than being ‘cold’ or unfriendly.

Eco-anxiety, the Psychological Effects of Climate Change

People care about the planet and the environment. Most people recognise that we live on planet earth and rely upon a stable environment, so when seemingly little climate action takes place and the headlines fill with stories of a ‘climate emergency’, there is a huge toll on the mental health of individuals. This is the […]

I Always Get Hungry at 11am

My morning is going well. I’m a couple of hours into whatever I am doing, and I am getting stuff done. I should be able to fit in another couple of hours of study or work before I have a lunch break. Then a wave of hunger hits me. I’m suddenly starving and wishing it […]

A Blocked Ear

This might not seem like that big of a deal (it’s really not), but my right ear is currently blocked. I’m assuming it is blocked by a build-up of wax (yum, I know), and that with the help of some ear drops I should be back to full function hearing very soon.

Do We Understand Sex?

Five-year-old me, ‘Where did I come from?’ Isn’t it strange, the answer is sex? You see any person walking down the street—bam, someone had sex and that is how they got here. As humans we all want love, friendships, relationships and to belong to a community. So why does the word sex send an awkward tingle down my […]

A Little Beach Holiday

I recently went on a two-night beach holiday with a couple of friends. Even though it was only a short holiday, I felt so relaxed and happy by the end of it. What is it about little holidays like this that is so good for my mental health?

Struggling With Sleep

I have always had trouble falling asleep. As a little kid, I was scared of pretty much everything, but most notably the dark. I couldn’t sleep without the hall light on, and even today I prefer to fall asleep with some background noise and a little bit of light coming through the window.

Morning Routines

I have found that a morning routine really helps me navigate my life and the challenges I have with depression and anxiety.

Dealing with Uncertainty

There are many times in life when things are uncertain. This can be particularly pronounced during periods of transition. The one that most readily springs to mind for me is the transition that most of us go through as we finish up our university study and move on to new, (hopefully) greener, pastures.

Cycling for the Un-Sporty

I love riding my bike, but I’m not sporty in the slightest. Sometimes I feel intimidated by all the other cyclists who dress in Lycra, ride expensive-looking contraptions, and zip in-between cars like it’s an extreme sport. How do you get comfortable riding a bike when you don’t fit this cyclist stereotype?
