Bed Time Routine

I am the type of person who needs at least 8 hours of sleep a night. I have tried to survive the day on 7 hours or less, and I become a cranky mess by 3PM. Every time.

Struggling With Sleep

I have always had trouble falling asleep. As a little kid, I was scared of pretty much everything, but most notably the dark. I couldn’t sleep without the hall light on, and even today I prefer to fall asleep with some background noise and a little bit of light coming through the window.

I have found that a morning routine really helps me navigate my life and the challenges I have with depression and anxiety.

A Good Night’s Rest

I’ve been having trouble sleeping lately, and I find I’m quite envious of Jeff the Wiggle. A good night’s rest can be the difference between me being a negative moody sod and a happy harry, a cast-down melancholy Cooper and a cooperative Cooper. So how can we have a better night’s sleep?

Weighted Blankets – Do They Actually Work?

Recently, I heard a recommendation for weighted blankets on a podcast I listen to. While there’s an array of brands that sell the same product, I was mostly interested in the wellbeing benefits that they supposedly offer. PhD Self-Care Project: Mindfulness

Meditation and mindfulness seem to have been the hype for several years now. I never thought I had any need to be mindful in my life. I just had so many things to do. I don’t have the time!

PhD Self-Care Project: Sleep

I identified some of my crippling distorted thinking that creeps up when I am nearing a deadline, or preparing for a presentation, or awaiting a decision on a submission. I’ve also found that I’m more susceptible to this kind of negative thinking whenever I’m considerably more exhausted and lacking in quality rest and sleep.

Why Am I So Tired?

I am just coming off a few weeks of holidays and am really tired. I thought I would be well rested and full of energy by this point in the year, but instead I am lethargic and lazy and waiting for the next opportunity to have a nap. So what’s going on? I decided to […]
