E-Commerce and Digital Trade – and the European Single Digital Market

On July 28 2017, the Director of the EU Centre for Global Affairs, Jane Drake-Brockman, participated in a research workshop co-hosted by the Institute for International Trade and the World Trade Institute in Bern, Switzerland. After a broader overview of recent global developments on e-commerce and digital trade, the workshop included a session devoted to discussion of progress in the EU on the Digital Single Market.

Hildegunn Kyvik Nordås, senior trade policy analyst at the Trade and Agriculture Directorate at the OECD, and visiting professor at Örebro University, delivered a presentation on the regional integration of the EU’s Digital Single Market, focussing on pro-competitive access regulations, and intra-EU trade barriers in e-commerce. Ingo Borchert, Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Sussex, delivered a presentation on the EU’s digital integration, covering e-commerce, trade in services modal interlinkages, and distributional aspects of digital trade. His presentation can be downloaded HERE.

Jane Drake-Brockman will address a similar set of issues related to the digital single market at the Joint EU Centres Conference on the Future of the EU on October 17 at RMIT in Melbourne.
