PLPRU makes a submission on Racial Discrimination Act ss 18C, 18D

PLPRU members the Hon. Catherine Branson QC, Associate Professor Laura Grenfell, Professor Geoffrey Lindell AM, Professor Emerita Rosemary Owens AO and Associate Professor Matthew Stubbs, have written a submission to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights inquiry into the Commonwealth Racial Discrimination Act 1975. The Joint Committee has been asked by the Attorney-General to report on the following matters:

  • “whether the operation of Part IIA of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) (including sections 18C and 18D) impose unreasonable restrictions on freedom of speech; and
  • whether the complaints-handling procedures of the Australian Human Rights Commission should be reformed.”

The Committee is due to report on 28 February 2017.
