The TERN Ecosystem Science Scholarship

The TERN Geospatial Scholarship is an opportunity for a developing ecologist or spatial scientist to gain valuable experience while contributing to the leading-edge science of the University of Adelaide and the Terrestrial Ecosystems Research Network (TERN).

The successful candidate will complete an ecology or GIS project related to the South Australian Transect for Environmental Monitoring and Decision Making (TREND). This could include criteria mapping potential survey sites, field surveys of vegetation and soils, or analysis of samples and/or data once collected. The TREND program is designed to improve our understanding of how climate change will affect SA’s terrestrial ecosystems. This is an opportunity for the candidate to assist in directing and implementing significant funding to key landscapes.

This scholarship will offer the successful candidate:

  • Hands-on experience in a professional ecology setting
  • A time-boxed research project which could be used as an example of ability to produce results for future job or research applications
  • An opportunity to work with and be mentored by a professional team of ecologists, spatial scientists, science communicators, geneticists and bioinformaticians
  • Remuneration of $500 per week for the duration of the program

This scholarship is available for up to 12 weeks, with starting date and part-time flexibility able to be negotiated. Applications will remain open until the scholarship has been filled.
