Director of Global Food Studies (GFS), Associate Professor Wendy Umberger has been invited to join the governing board of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). With its headquarters in India, “ICRISAT is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world” (source: ICRISAT’s website).
ICRISAT is a member of a global agriculture research partnership (the CGIAR Consortium) for a “food secure future”, whose science is carried out by 15 member research centres.
Prof Umberger’s new role will further strengthen GFS support for research and development projects focusing on global food security.
